The National Theatre Of Brent

I am adding a new link (on the right)to some mp3's of The National Theatre Of Brent.
The NTOB are Patrick Barlow (Desmond Olivier Dingle) and Wallace (Jim Broadbent).
Most recently Wallace has been replaced by Raymond (John Ramm). Mr Broadbent, I assume, is busy being one of the countries finest actors.

The conceit is simple, two men perform massive moments from world history. The problem is they are both idiots. Wallace and Raymond know their limitations, but Desmond Olivier Dingle is under the false impression that he is a great historian, director, playwright and actor.

The NTOB have been around since the early 80's, making TV and radio appearances as well as performing on the stage. One of my personal favorites was "Revolution!" where they reenacted the French Revolution. It is impossible, it seems, to get hold of any of their material as nothing has been released on DVD or CD. The stuff I have posted has been collected from the radio over the years.

So far there is "The Messiah" & "The Greatest Story Ever Told". Later I will post the 6 part series "The Arts & How They Was Done".

I hope you enjoy them.

MUCH APPRECIATEED! YOU ROCK! And any other superlatives I can think of!

Thanks for these - excellent. Would you like Desmond Olivier Dingles Compleat guide to Shakespeare - a series of 6 30 min programmes? Is there a way I could send them directly to you in exchange for a direct download of Messiah and greatest story (because recording them in realtime is a bit of a pain)

Hello anthonyg. I hope this thread isn't cold... Did you ever get to upload/share the NTOB's Shakespeare material? I have managed to get ahold of a lot of NTOB stuff (thanks to the lovely people meeting here, and divshare), but am now completely addicted and need more. Thanks!

Well, it's been a long time but here are the first two of Desmond Olivier Dingle's Compleat Guide to Shakespeare, by Desmond Olivier Dingle.

These are available on various torrent sites. I'll put up the next 4 in the series if there is some positive feedback

I just stumbled onto your site - had totally forgotten NTOB!!! I remember an afternoon in the mid 80s skipping college and watching them on tv and being stunned.

Any chance you could upload more stuff?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Thanks for the NTOB stuff!

I'd really like to download 'the Messiah', one of your comments says it's accessible at
http://www.divshare.com/download/4057733-754
but I can only find the 'Greatest Story' there. If you would be kind enough to post a link to the Messiah mp3 I would be very grateful!

Thanks again!!

'cause it's attrosh diffi to be doin' the findin' of the ntob. the channel 4 series, "mighty moments from world history", a-by the ntob, i do fear shalt never be a-witnessed a-by mine eynes- my nynes- m'ny m'namyne... leave it, raymond...
mine eyes shalt never be beholdin' bernard! possibly never! what do you, solo soup implement, know of "mighty moments from world history"? is it hilar? do you have a favourite episode? do you have a favourite amongst the men who've played desmond's assisstants? are you mineral? are you in the room?

Anyone else having trouble d/loading some of the 'compleat' files from divshare? 1, 2 and 6 are fine; for the others, the download just never starts.

MrTonyInchpractice said...

me, too.
tho at least we still get to hear episode six, where Lionel Blare responds to the third instance of the question, "Do you mind if I call you 'Lionel'?"
the episodes 3, 4 & 5 are not even listenable-to on the divshare website-thing-homepage.
the Tracey Emin Icon episode was a hoot. loads like an 'Arts an' how They Was Done' episode, and the funnier for it. i laughed hard at the short interview with Kate Winslet.

it was, verily, the Best Bed Ever Made.

The mp3 files to the right don't seem to work anymore. I've tried on three different computers/internet hookups.

All the links should work now. They all went dead after diveshare altered the software.

from patrick barlow interview about jim "imhotep" broadbean:"Earlier this year he came to see us doing The Wonder of Sex at the National, and there is a moment when Desmond tries to borrow a fiver from Raymond (Wallace's replacement) and the audience starts taking Raymond's side and tells him not to give Desmond the money. Suddenly, in the middle of all this, I heard Jim's voice from the stalls calling out in his Wallace voice, 'Don't do it Raymond! Don't fall for it! I know what he's up to!' and it made me laugh out loud in the middle of this routine."

All six episodes of NTOB's 1999 TV series "Massive Landmarks of the Twentieth Century" are on 4OD at http://www.channel4.com/programmes/massive-landmarks-of-the-twentieth-century/4od

Until quite recently they were also posted on YouTube, but now seem to have disappeared. When I first noticed them there about a month ago, they had been there for nearly 3 years but had only attracted less than 1000 views each. A surprise for such a fine gem from NTOB's oeuvre (as Desmond may well have put it). But great news that 4OD now seems to have housed them permanently.

Does anybody know of any place I can get any other John Ramm/Patrick Barlow NTOB episodes, other than Audible? Many thanks!

Unknown said...

I have some MP3s if you are interested.
Bronte Sisters
History of Sex
and several others
I am missing "The Complete and Utter History of the Mona Lisa" if any one has a copy.

soupytwist said...

I have the Mona Lisa episode, all 42m32s of it :-) I could upload it to something like We Transfer (which would need email addresses in order to access), or I could get it to you/anyone by other means if you know a good method? I never had much luck using Divshare, back in the day.

Charlotte said...

Unknown and SoupyTwist, yes I am very interested! I would be delighted to get the Bronte Sisters (or the whole set of the Arts and How they was done if you have it) and especially the History of Sex! And also the Mona Lisa.

The Suffragettes series is available on Audible. I have the The First Man on the Moon and How They Done It if you would like it - not quite as good as the version already on YouTube though.

Please let me know

Unknown said...

Hello both,
I use Wetransfer. It is fast and free.
Soupytwist could you send me Mona Lisa using Wetransfer ? That would be great.
email ianpswimmer@gmail.com
Charlotte I can send you "Bronte Sisters" and "The Brent Guide to Sex" if you send me your email address to ianpswimmer@gmail.com

soupytwist said...

Right, I will setup a WeTransfer to Mr Unknown for Mona Lisa. I can add Charlotte and anyone else if they post their email address here.
By the way, I can't find "The First Man on the Moon and How They Done It" on YouTube, assuming that this was a radio version. But here is a video there called "The Untold Story of The Moon Landins", which seems to date from 2001. Is this the same thing?

Charlotte said...

Unknown, I have emailed you so you should have my address!

Soupytwist, 'The First Man on The Moon and How They Done It' is indeed a radio version, released in 2019 to co-incide with the fiftieth anniversary of the moon landings. It borrows heavily from the 2001 NTOB video on Youtube, 'The Untold Story of The Moon Landins', being very similar in content. While the 2019 radio version is still good, I think that the 2001 NTOB video, with more extensive coverage of the space wives story, and the background of the Vietnam War, is better as it includes all of the best bits yet is more balanced and poignant.
